Paws In Need - Happy Endings
Charlie – The Most Willing, Happiest
Dog in the World
We took Charlie home about six weeks
after he’d been found near to death from starvation. He was reckoned to be
about six months old, weighed around forty pounds and could eat a bowl of food
faster than you can say woof.
Right from the start he was adorable,
with big, brown, soulful eyes, and his longing for company. He instantly became
best friends with our exuberant Shiba Inu called Teddy, who loves any other dog
and thinks she is a big dog in a small dog’s body.
They play together every
day, a year later,
in huge growling rough-and-tumble fights, but Charlie
never over-powers his little friend. He struggled with house-training and not
chasing our cats for a while, but with a little patient training he fitted in
completely.
One wonderful thing we have seen is how
Charlie protects Teddy. She can be over-confident with other dogs, and Charlie
will always help her get out of a tricky situation.
Today he weighs eighty four
pounds (though isn’t much taller than when he weighed forty), is loving and
gentle with us and our cats, and reassuringly alerts us to any strangers. He is
a perfect guard dog, companion, and member of our family.
